The “Limburg route” counts 125 kilometers of roads through the beautiful landscape of Southern-Limburg and Belgium. After the start in Valkenburg you will pass through the ancient caves of Valkenburg.
Don’t forget to bring your headlamp. After the caves the famous Cauberg hill awaits. This hill has been part of many world championships and Amstel Gold Races throughout history. After you have regained your breath you will drive through the fruit region of Eijsden-Margraten. We take a special means of transport to cross the Meusse river. Belgium awaits us as we drive towards the capital of Limburg, Maastricht.
The newly erected Green route (Groene loper), a cycling route through the city brings us back in the Valkenburg region. In the hamlet of Geulhem, Emiel the owner of the Belgian Cycling House awaits you with his tools and endless knowledge of bike repairing. Perhaps if you ask him, he also will play a tune on his accordion. Fresh fruit and fruit drinks from the Limburg fruit region will be served. If you already fancy a beer, why not try a tasting of the Super 8 special beer by Primus Haacht. Don’t drink too much, there are a lot of climbing meters still to be conquered. Via Houthem-St. Gerlach we cross through the new municipality of Beekdaelen. The third food stop at the Cortenbach estate is in reach. After having indulged yourself with the tasteful asparagus dishes and wine of the estate’s vineyard you will set course for Ubachsberg. After a gravel climb the small village of Simpelveld appears at the horizon. Simpelveld is well known for the several monasteries and the historic steam train museum (ZLSM). We cross the railway line at the station of Simpelveld where a service point is located. If you have any problems with your bike Lars Toma of Toma cycles will help you again on your way. After the stop at the train station you will follow the route on the old Roman roads towards Bocholtz and Eys. The beautiful and long climb of the Eyserweg will bring you to the hamlet of Trintelen. Via Wijlre you will reach the village of Gulpen where a food stop is foreseen. After the stop the climb to Ingber awaits you. You will stay on the plateau till you reach the nature reserve of Gerendal. You will enter Oud Valkenburg and cross the famous Luciano Berruti bridge at the Schaloen castle before you reach the finish line in Valkenburg.
