La beauté de la fatigue et le frisson de la conquête

We’ve adapted the format of Eroica South Africa 2021 considering current regulations and crowd restrictions, and we’ll be hosting the event from the Montagu Country Hotel on Bath Street.

The hotel has a beautiful new deck that will be the base for registration, the start and finish. We have an exciting new route concept for you this year, where riders will be encouraged to spend a day out on their bikes. Grab breakfast, lunch and drinks along the route and enjoy the dramatic backdrop of the mountainous region. In the interest of trying to keep everyone safe, we will also be introducing a casual start to this year’s event. Start when, and with whoever you want to. Upon online registration you will receive a detailed map marked with routes, picnic spots, view points and a secret swim spot or two. Plan ahead to make your day as laid back, or challenging as possible.

If you’re entering the Eroica Classic category and you don’t have your equipment in order yet, fear not - our partners at everyone’s favorite South African cycling site - the Bike Hub - has created a special Vintage Bike category on their online marketplace. Here you’ll be able to find many fantastic options to get you rolling, and it may even help you find that missing part in the Vintage Components section.

The NOVA racers will also have an informal start with four timed sections along the route. There will be lots of opportunity in between for hanging out, enjoying a beer or two, and even to sneak off for a swim...

L’Eroica started in 1997 because of one man, Giancarlo Brocci, who admired the values of a past cycling so much that he wanted to reconnect others to the heritage that inspired much Italian history, literature, culture, and music.

L’Eroica was also begun as a foundation for the protection and preservation of the last gravel roads in Tuscany. These romantic concepts led to the idea of L’Eroica, an event that initially saw 92 “hunters of feelings and emotions”, as the creator Giancarlo Brocci defines them.

“We want people to rediscover the beauty of fatigue and the taste of accomplishment”
