The beauty of fatigue and the thrill of conquest
   Edition 2024

2024 will be a special year for Eroica Japan, celebrating its 10th anniversary surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Izu Peninsula.

On 11 and 12 May 2024, Eroica Japan will have the honor of blowing out its first 10 candles, having become the most coveted cycling event for all vintage cycling fans in Asia. Since the spirit of l'Eroica landed in Japan in 2013, thousands of cyclists from all over the world have had the opportunity to discover the beauty of a country that has a strong cycling culture in its DNA.

Eroica Japan will continue to protect and promote the original spirit of cycling, which is why it has chosen the Izu Peninsula, a small pearl of natural beauty and culture linked above all to the centuries-old history of the samurai, as its venue. The Izu Peninsula is among the most popular destinations for Japanese cyclists, thanks to its light traffic, its picturesque spa villages (where one can still breathe in a genuine Japanese atmosphere), and its marvelous coastline roads from which one can see imposing [stacks] rising above the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Another highlight of the Izu Peninsula are its majestic peaks from which the imposing figure of Mount Fuji can be admired. It is indeed Mount Fuji that features as the symbol of the 10th edition.

Eroica Japan includes sections of adventurous dirt roads as an added challenge to your cycling experience. These stretches take you to unique and hidden places that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Samurai and cycling

The Izu region is still famous for its centuries-old culture linkage to the samurai tradition. It was in Izu that the first family of warriors were born, transforming Japan from an empire tied to aristocratic families to the Japan we know today, with its sophisticated artistic forms of tea ceremonies, ikebana flower arrangements and origami.

Thanks to the samurai, a sword-making culture was also born, a heritage passed on to cycling to this day. In fact, Japan not only considers keirin as a national sport, but also retains a very strong culture of handcrafted bicycles, especially randonneurs suitable for Japan's roads and routes.

Refreshment points

At Eroica Japan, special care has been given to its refreshment points. Along the route, one has the opportunity to sample the culinary delicacies of the region, to enrich your experience in Japan with authentic flavours. In addition, the peninsula is known for its abundant hot springs (the famous onsen). After the event, you can relax in one of the many cosy natural thermal baths.

Eroica Japan therefore offers you not only two days of adventurous cycling, but also a dive into the culture and history of a thousand-year-old country which is Japan.

We look forward to celebrating the first of many anniversaries to come.
