The Michele Scarponi Foundation

The Michele Scarponi Foundation for Road Safety is a gift that Michele and his family wanted to give to humanity. To remember that Michele's memory is safeguarded within a better future.

In Michele's name, the Foundation has been working since May 8, 2018, creating and funding projects aimed at educating on correct road behavior, promoting a culture of respect for rules and others, and carrying out initiatives that focus on vulnerable road users and society as a whole.

The Foundation collaborates with municipalities, the world of sports, schools, law enforcement agencies, state bodies responsible for road safety monitoring, safety education, and all organizations with similar objectives. To date, the Foundation has:

  • Implemented the School Project, a training and development program on sustainable mobility and road safety, training 15 educators and reaching 30,000 students in 50 schools across Italy.
  • Launched the "Michele Scarponi" Cycling School, aiming to provide comprehensive education for children: with 3 federal technical instructors and 50 participants aged 5 to 12.
  • Participated in and organized road safety and sustainable mobility awareness events (over 300 meetings throughout Italy).
  • Promoted and supported actions and initiatives in support of the 30 km/h city initiative.

The vision of the Michele Scarponi Foundation

A road without violence, without pain, where everyone can move safely. Where children, the disabled, pedestrians, cyclists, everyone can travel without the risk of being killed. A road where there are no longer victims, but only life.

The mission of the Michele Scarponi Foundation

Death due to road violence is a daily injustice still perceived as normal. Life on the road is continuously threatened by reckless driving behavior, inadequate controls, and too many motor vehicles in circulation. The result is an unsafe road space, dominated by the strongest. To have a welcoming road, for everyone and by everyone, road safety education and sustainable mobility must be improved, road space must be redistributed starting from the most vulnerable, and more controls must be demanded. The Michele Scarponi Foundation pursues the principles of road safety and sustainable mobility, so that the road becomes a common good: because life, even on the road, is the greatest gift we have.

The Michele Scarponi Foundation team awaits cyclists and their families at the stand located near Piazza del Popolo in Montalcino on Saturday and Sunday.
