NOVA Eroica is cycling event that takes place mainly on white roads with Gravel, Cyclocross or Road Bikes.

The event is affiliated and promoted by F.C.I. and A.C.S.I. and complies with the Rules of the National Amateur Sector of F.C.I.

All Participants are required to carefully read the following rules before registering.


ART. 1 – GENERAL INFORMATION

NOVA Eroica will take place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June 2025 in Buonconvento, Siena, Italy.

The cycling event includes:

  • Saturday 21 June: one trip called “Epic NOVA”
  • Sunday 22 June: two Competitive routes with timed special tests and free-ride transfer sections and one Cycle-Touring route

In the current rules & regulations, NOVA Eroica will be referred to as Event or Race.


ART. 2 – BICYCLES

Nova Eroica is a cycling event for ROAD RACING, CYCLOCROSS and GRAVEL BICYCLES with carbon, steel, titanium or aluminium frames. Road-racing bicycles must be drop bar. Gravel bikes, to be considered such, must have minimum 32 mm tyres and disk brakes on front and back wheels.

ART. 2.1 Definition of Gravel bicycle

The gravel bike frame derives from the frame of a cyclo-cross bicycle and has been clearly defined by the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI). The following are the differences between a cyclo-cross and a gravel bike:

  • Bottom bracket shell height 27.5/28 mm
  • Head tube 1.5-3 cm higher than usual
  • Head tube angle over 70°
  • Rear stays and front fork clearance wide enough to accommodate up to 50mm tyres (average wheel size 700x35/40 or 560bx40)
  • 140/160mm disc brakes
  • Internal cable routing
  • Steel/carbon and in some cases alluminium frames are acceptable
  • Groupset 1x or 2x (such as Ekar Campagnolo or GRX Shimano or Force Sram)
  • Curved handlebars

ART. 3 – ROUTES and STARTING TIMES

NOVA Eroica offers four different routes:

  • Journey “EPIC Nova”: 290 km RANDONNÉE
  • Long “Terra di Siena”: 130 km, COMPETITIVE
  • Medium “Crete Senesi”: 100 km, COMPETITIVE
  • Short “Val D’Arbia”: 60 km, NOT COMPETITIVE

The competitive races are divided between relaxed-pace and timed segments. The not competitive event is entirely at one’s own pace.

Each participant may choose the route that is most suited to him/her and the choice must be indicated when registering. It is possible to change the route chosen, without any penalty, up until 25 May 2025, as long as changes are between routes that require the same type of medical certificate.

This possibility may be curtailed or limited by the Organization for technical and/or safety reasons.

Routes will be signposted but each rider is expected to use the GPS routes and timetables on the NOVA Eroica website (LINK)

The Organization will guarantee the presence of a vehicle to follow the race from start to finish with the exception of the EPIC Nova.

Starting times are as follows:

  • Journey “EPIC Nova” (290 km) : Saturday 21 June 2025, 4.00 AM
  • Long “Terra di Siena” (130 km) : Sunday 22 June 2025, 8.00 AM
  • Medium “Crete Senesi” (100 km) : Sunday 22 June 2025, 8.00 AM
  • Short “Val D’Arbia” (60 km) : Sunday 22 June 2025, 8.00 AM

ART. 3.1 “Epic NOVA” Journey

The “Epic NOVA” is a 290 km route to be done with the randonnée formula in full autonomy in compliance with the highway code and for health services.

The organization:

  • GUARANTEES some food stops (see Art. 17 adhering to the indicated times);
  • MANDATORY front and rear lights at the Start
  • MANDATORY Travel Booklet for Control Stamps
  • MANDATORY Chip to be Affixed to the Bicycle provided in the Technical Envelope
  • RECOMMENDS Repair Kit. In any case in the official food stops we will have a Bike Workshop Box to be used independently without guaranteeing spare parts and any type of tool;
  • RECOMMENDS energy foods for the trip;

ART. 4 – STARTING ORDER

Riders will be divided into 3 starting grids:

GROUP “A” Ciclo Club Eroica

  • Ciclo Club Eroica
  • Guests

GROUP “B” National ACSI Gravel Championships

  • Gravel bicycles

GROUP “C” Road-racing bicycles

  • Road-racing bicycles
  • Cyclo-cross bicycles

The “EPIC Nova” journey start is subjected by the obligation to have rear and front lights on the bicycle and a repair kit.


ART. 5 – PARTICIPATION AND SPORT’S CLUB MEMBERSHIP

In order to adhere to Italian law, when registering, the athletes must be members of the FCI or of a sport’s club that is affiliated with the FCI.

Affiliated sport’s club: ACSI, US ACLI, CSI, CSAIN, AICS, LIBERTAS, CSIN. Members of OPS and ASI.

A valid cycling club membership card must be uploaded onto the appropriate section of the My Eroica platform, at least 15 days before registering to give the Organisation time to check it. All cards will be checked within 15 days of being uploaded.

Membership categories are:

  • AMATEUR CYCLIST (Competitive fitness)
  • LEISURE CYCLIST (NOT Competitive fitness)

Italian Cyclists who are not in possession of cycling club membership may register by paying €10 for “ACSI membership” which includes daily insurance cover for the events organised in Italy by Eroica Italia S.S.D. a r.l.

Foreign cyclists may register only by paying €10 for “ACSI membership” which includes daily insurance cover for the events organised in Italy by Eroica Italia S.S.D. a r.l.

The Organisation reserves the incontestable right to accept or refuse registration or to exclude an entrant from an event, should his/her participation damage the image of the event. 

The “ACSI membership” card it must not be loaded on the MyEroica page.


ART. 6 – MANDATORY MEDICAL CERTIFICATE FOR EVERYBODY

For all participants, including holders of a Sports Card for Cycling (as per Article 5), it is MANDATORY to present a valid MEDICAL CERTIFICATE to the organization.

The MEDICAL CERTIFICATE required depends on the type of route chosen and on the type of membership as defined by the Implementing Rules of F.C.I. .

Participation in the 130 km and 100 km, competitive routes of high psychophysical effort, is subject to the regular possession of the following requirement:

  • for athletes registered with the FCI or with a sports promotion club: certificate of fitness for competitive cycling (EX DM 18/02/82). Certificates for other types of sports such as triathlon, duathlon, athletics, etc. are not valid
  • for athletes of Italian residence but not registered with the FCI or with a sports promotion club: certificate of fitness for competitive cycling (EX DM 18/02/82)
  • for athletes of foreign residence: certificate of eligibility for participation in competitive cycling races also issued by a doctor in their Country of residence (LINK)

Participation in the 60 km route, non-competitive routes of low psychophysical effort, is subject to the regular possession of the following requirement:

  • for Italian athletes registered with the FCI or with a sports promotion club: certificate of fitness for non-competitive practice of cycling or fitness for the practice of sporting activities of particular and high cardiovascular effort (DM 24/04/13) (LINK). For Italian athletes aged 70 or over (solar age), the certificate of fitness for competitive cycling practice is mandatory (EX DM 18/02/82) REQUESTED EXCEPTION TO F.C.I.
  • for athletes residing in Italy but not registered with the FCI or with a sports promotion club: certificate of fitness for non-competitive cycling or fitness for the practice of sporting activities of a particular and high cardiovascular effort (DM 24/04/13) (LINK). For Italian athletes aged 70 or over (solar age), the certificate of fitness for competitive cycling practice is mandatory (EX DM 18/02/82) REQUESTED EXCEPTION TO F.C.I.
  • for athletes of foreign residence: certificate of fitness for non-competitive practice for cycling or fitness for the practice of sporting activities of particular and high cardiovascular effort or equivalent, also issued by a doctor in their country of residence (LINK). REQUESTED EXCEPTION TO F.C.I.
  • for foreign athletes aged 70 or over (solar age), the certificate of fitness for competitive cycling practice is mandatory (EX DM 18/02/82)

Participation in the 290 km EPIC Nova Randonnee, competitive route of high psychophysical effort, is subject to the regular possession of the following requirement:

  • for athletes registered with the FCI or with a sports promotion club: certificate of fitness for competitive cycling (EX DM 18/02/82). Certificates for other types of sports such as triathlon, duathlon, athletics, etc. are not valid
  • for athletes of Italian residence but not registered with the FCI or with a sports promotion club: certificate of fitness for competitive cycling (EX DM 18/02/82)
  • for athletes of foreign residence: certificate of eligibility for participation in competitive cycling races also issued by a doctor in their Country of residence (LINK)

The certificate of fitness to practice sport must be uploaded online on the MyEroica platform in the appropriate section "my documents" by 10 June 2025. The uploaded certificate will be checked and validated online within 15 days from the date of upload. If the certificate of fitness for sporting practice is not compliant, it will be rejected and canceled and the member will have to upload a new compliant one.

For those who carry out LAST MINUTE REGISTRATION, the medical certificate must be presented and validated upon collection of the technical envelope (See Art.8)

Those who fail to comply with this requirement will NOT be considered regularly registered and will not be entitled to a refund of the registration fee.

Each participant must declare pursuant to the D.P.R. n. 445 of 28 December 2000 that the documents uploaded by him on the MyEroica system are true and correspond to the originals in his possession.


ART. 7 – REGISTRATION METHODS AND FEES

It is possible to register directly on the MyEroica platform: https://www.myeroica.cc

Each participant must register using his/her own email address and choosing a password. The email address will become your user ID, therefore the same email address cannot be used by two or more people.

Only individual registrations are possible. Sport’s groups wishing to register a team using a single MyEroica account must contact the Organisers at the mail address: [email protected]

Registration will open at 09:00 AM on November 26, 2024 (CET, Rome) with the following fees and closing dates:

  • CICLO CLUB EROICA registration, reserved to Ciclo Club Eroica Members at € 50.00, starting from November 26, 2024 (the CCE Personal Bib Number will be guaranteed for registrations made by April 30, 2025)
  • PRIVILEGE registration, open to all at € 60.00, starting from November 26, 2024 and until January 31, 2025
  • STANDARD registration, open to all at € 70.00, starting from February 1, 2025 and until May 15, 2025
  • STANDAR LATE registration, open to all at € 80.00, starting from May 16, 2025 and until June 20, 2025
  • LAST MINUTE registration, on site at the Registration Office at € 90,00 starting from June 20, 2025 and until June 22, 2025 during the technical envelope distribution hours (see Art. 8)
  • “Epic NOVA“ Journey registration, open to all at € 70,00, starting from November 26, 2024 and until May 15, 2025
  • COMBINED (NOVA Eroica + L’Eroica) registration, open to all at € 130,00 starting from November 26, 2024 until 400 available numbers are sold out

Your registration, irrespective of the established fee, includes:

  • RACE PACK with event gifts and souvenirs;
  • RACE NUMBER to be attached to your jersey and bicycle;
  • EROICA MAP with details of the routes and food stops;
  • FOOD STOPS in varying numbers according to the length of the route chosen;
  • PRIZE at the finish line;
  • PASTA PARTY at the end of the event.

ART. 8 – COLLECTION OF RACE PACK AND NUMBER

RACE PACKS, ENVELOPES and NUMBERS will be distributed at the established points at the following times:

  • Friday 20 June 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM;
  • Saturday 21 June 2025, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM;
  • Sunday 22 June 2025, from 07:00 AM to 8:00 AM; Race Pack Collection will be possible until 5:00 PM

In order to pick up your RACE PACK and NUMBER, it is mandatory to present:

  • A printout of your “MY EROICA” page, showing your completed registration;
  • A valid form of I.D.
  • Membership card for a competitive sport’s club, according to Art. 5 of the current regulations.

Non-club members who have opted to purchase the ACSI membership at a cost of €10 when registering are not obliged to present a membership card.

Collection of the “RACE PACK and NUMBER” may be delegated to a friend or a person acting on your behalf. They must present an original printout of your MY EROICA page, with the proxy section filled out and signed (LINK) , as well as the copy of a valid form of I.D. and a copy of the competitive sport’s card of the delegating party.

The RACE PACK and NUMBER for groups may be collected by providing a cumulative list with the details of each individual participant.


ART. 9 – SUBSTITUTIONS OR CANCELLATIONS

It is possible to request the substitution of a participant up to 30 days before the event, if registration is finalized with forms compiled and the registration fee paid in full. In order to complete the substitution, the new participant must register on “MY EROICA” and upload the requested documents (valid medical certificate and sport’s club membership). An administration fee of €15.00 will be charged for this service.  

If a registered cyclist is unable to participate in the event, the registration fee will not be reimbursed and the race pack will not be sent. 

Up to 30 days before the event, the registered cyclist will have the right to cancel his/her participation by sending an email to [email protected]. The Organisation reserves the right to judge whether the requests received are prompted by an “objective impossibility to participate due to injury”, as documented by medical records, which will be handled in compliance with current privacy laws.

For cases accepted by the Organisation, the registration fee will be considered valid for the same event on the following year, upon payment of an administration fee of €15.

Any registration considered valid for the following year is strictly personal and cannot be transferred to a third party. Should the cyclist fail to participate again, the registration fee will be forfeited.


ART. 10 – TIMETABLE

Timetables for all routes will be published online and made official at least 7 days before the event.

At the start and finish of each special TIME trial, the times of each athlete will be recorded by CHIP applied to the bike number, supplied with the technical envelope. Those who miss even a single special TIME trial will not be included in the final ranking. Referring to the UCI and FCI regulations, paragraphs 1.3.010 and 12.1.013b regarding technological fraud, the race jury, with the technical support of the organisers, is authorized to carry out systematic or spot checks.

Non-conformity or refusal to submit oneself to the technical checks requested, will lead to immediate disqualification and offenders will be reported to the competent authorities.

The time trials will be carried out by My Sdam according to procedures that will be communicated before the Event.

The EPIC Nova journey will be certified with specific checks registered in the Road Book delivered with the technical envelope. The check-point are located in:

  • Gaiole in Chianti (Km 82)
  • Radi (Km 130)
  • Montalcino (Km 200)
  • Montisi (Km 255)

Additional checks may also be foreseen along the route.


ART. 11 – TEAM COMPOSITION, RANKING and PRIZES

A team may be defined as such if composed of at least 4 cyclists who are members of the same sport’s club. Teams may be composed of men only, women only or may be mixed.

Teams with most cyclists finishing their respective routes within the time limit indicated on the timetable (Art. 10) will be awarded prizes. In the case of the same number of cyclists finishing, the sum of the best times will be considered.

  • 1st Team: NOVA Eroica 2025 Prize
  • 2nd Team: NOVA Eroica 2025 Prize
  • 3rd Team: NOVA Eroica 2025 Prize

In the case of a draw between two or more teams, the overall ranking of the individual participants will be considered.

The prize-giving ceremony will take place at the end of the Race, in the Bike Village at 5.00 PM


ART. 12 – INDIVIDUAL RANKING AND PRIZES

The ranking will be decided based on the sum of individual times on the timed sections.

Uncollected prizes will not be presented to third parties nor will they be sent to the winners.

The Organisation reserves the right to modify the categories according to any new indications or needs.

All participants who finish NOVA Eroica will receive a celebratory medal of the event at the finish line.

Participants in the EPIC Nova journey will also be given a special participation prize will upon arrival.


ART. 12 BIS - ACSI GRAVEL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

ACSI Gravel National Champion will be awarded on the Medium Crete Senesi Route and on the Long Terra di Siena Route, in all the categories.

The race will take place both on the Long Terre di Siena Route which runs for 130 km with 4 timed sections and on the Medium Crete Senesi Route of 100 km with 2 timed sections.

The rankings will be determined, as usual, by the sum of the individual times on the timed sections. The ACSI Gravel National Champion will be awarded to the first place finishers in each category:

  • Male
  • Female
  • Handicap

The participating teams with the highest number of athletes reaching the finish line will also be rewarded.

The times for the rankings will be recorded only for competitors who will participate in Gravel bikes and who will have access to Group B at the start, as reported by the Art. 4 and Art. 2.1.

The ACSI Gravel National Champion will be awarded at the end of the race at the Bike Village, as reported in Art.12.


ART. 13 – PUBLICATION of RANKING for TEAMS and INDIVIDUALS

At the end of the Medium “Crete Senesi” and Long “Terra di Siena” routes, the ranking of the special timed sections for individuals and teams will be calculated and published.

The rankings will be published on the NOVA Eroica website (LINK) and on the website www.mysdam.net


ART. 14 – MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Medical assistance includes the presence of ambulances with doctors and paramedics.

A Shared and Approved Health Aid Plan is envisaged by the 118 Siena - Grosseto Emergency Department.

The race is followed by ambulances and doctors qualified for S.O.S 118.

ART. 15 – MECHANICAL ASSISTANCE

The Eroica Ciclofficina will carry out mechanical assistance at the start and finish.

Assistance of any kind by private vehicles following the race is strictly prohibited.

For the competitive and tourist routes, the Organization guarantees paid mechanical assistance at all refreshment points, mechanical assistance during the race and at the end of the event without guaranteeing timeliness for all athletes.

Participants in the EPIC Nova journey will not be guaranteed mechanical assistance.


ART. 16 - CLOSURE AND ROUTE DEVIATIONS

The maximum time to complete all the routes is set for 17:00.

In the proximity of Il Santa Marcella (Buonconvento), starting from 2:00 PM, the detour on the 100 km route will be compulsory.

The maximum time to complete the EPIC Nova journey will soon be available in this section.


ART. 17 - FOOD STOPS

Along the routes there are two types of refreshment points:

  • Eroica official REFRESHMENT points (marked with on the EROICA MAP) equipped with drinks, sweet and savory food in authentic Eroica style;
  • GREETING points (organized by local communities to testify their friendship to Eroica and marked with an S on the EROICA MAP) less equipped with official refreshments.

Please note that both the REFRESHMENT and GREETING points will ALWAYS be FREE.

  • TORRE A CASTELLO (only water) - opening at 9:30 AM, closing at 10:45 AM

The following refreshments will be set up for the EPIC Nova journey:

  • Radi (Km 130) - Bar Sapori di Radi - opening at 11:30 AM, closing at 6:00 PM
  • Montalcino (Km 200) - Bar Fortezza - opening at 3:00 PM, closing at 1:00 AM - Shower service available
  • Montisi (Km 255) - Barrino Ombellico del Mondo - opening at 5:45 PM, closing at 6:30 AM


ART. 18 – COMPLAINTS AND INFORMATION

ART. 19 - CANCELLATION OR POSTPONEMENT OF THE EVENT

If, for reasons of force majeure, the event does not take place, the amount paid will not be reimbursed but the registration fee will be considered valid for the following edition.  The Organisation will charge an administration fee of €15.00 to postpone registration to the following year. The request to postpone registration to the following year must reach the organisers, together with payment of the administration fee, by the date indicated upon cancellation of the event.

Furthermore, should the organisation of the event or participation of over half of those registered be put at risk due to force majeure or other serious causes, the Organisation reserves the right to move the place and/or date of the event within the same calendar year. In this case, the registration fee will be considered valid for the event on the new date, with no additional costs. It will, however, not be possible to move your registration to the following year.


ART. 20 – VARIATIONS

The Organisation reserves the right to make changes to the regulations at any time. The official website of the event, where these rules & regulations are published, is the only source of information regarding the event.


ART. 21 – RIGHTS AND RESPONSABILITIES OF CYCLISTS

Cyclists are obliged to fix the race number provided by the Organisation to the back of the saddle and to their jerseys in a visible way. These numbers may not be modified or altered in any way.

It is obligatory to use an approved rigid helmet and keep it fastened for the duration of the race. Riders are obliged to respect the rules of the road during the entire event including during the timed sections.


ART. 22 – DISQUALIFICATION

Disqualification lasting 2 years will apply in the following cases:

  • Unauthorised deviations from the route;
  • Abusive or offensive behaviour towards members of the organisation;
  • Lack of respect for the environment, such as littering in non-designated areas, outside food stops and checkpoints.

We appeal to the civic duty of all participants to keep the routes and locality clean and litter-free.

In serious cases, such as participating with another rider’s RACE NUMBER and unauthorised transfer of one’s registration, disqualification may be for life, subject to the incontestable judgement of the organisers.

If any rider is disqualified during the course of the year, this may lead to exclusion from the starting list at any moment and at the Organisation’s incontestable judgement.

The use of bicycles equipped with any kind of motor or mechanical assistance, is strictly forbidden, at risk of disqualification or exclusion.


ART. 23 – OTHER NORMS

For any issues that are not covered by the current regulations, the organisers will apply the current ACSI rules for amateur and cycling events.


ART. 24 – APPROVAL, CONSENT, AUTHORISATION, ETC.

When requesting to participate in NOVA Eroica by any of the methods provided for by the current regulations, each participant, from the moment of registration:

  • declares that he/she has read and accepted the current Regulations in every part;
  • guarantees his/her own behaviour during and after the event;
  • declares that he/she is in good physical health and that he/she has provided the organization with a valid medical certificate, having undergone a medical examination for the practice of competitive or leisure cycling (as per Art. 6), thus giving the Organisation the utmost leverage in the event of any damages resulting from his/her participation in the event;
  • expresses consent to the use of his/her personal information, including for commercial use, as provided for under Italian privacy law no. 196 dated 30/06/2003 and European Union Regulation 2017/679 (GDPR/18);
  • gives the organisers the most ample consent to use, according to the law, including for profit, any video or photographic images taken during the days of the event, giving the Organisation the right to transfer such images to third parties. Said authorisation, regarding the use of one’s own image, is to be considered permanent and without any territorial limits anywhere in the world. Images may be used in various publications and filmed material, including but not limited to promotional and/or advertising material produced on any medium. The Organisation may, furthermore, transfer to third parties and to its own institutional and commercial partners, the usage rights covered by this agreement.

The Organisation declines any responsibility, either direct or on the part of its collaborators, for any accident or damage to people or property, that may arise before, during and after the event or as a result of the same.

Moreover, with the dispatch of the online registration form, participants self-certify the non-existence of present or past sporting, civil and/or penal sentences, even if already served, related to doping issues and declare that they have never taken – and will never take – substances included in the antidoping list of the World Antidoping Agency (WADA) – http://list.wada-ama.org/prohibited-all-times/prohibited-substances/. False certifications are punishable by law.

Should a participant be found positive in an antidoping check during NOVA Eroica, or if positivity is proven during other events within six (6) months of the event, the participant will owe the sum of €50,000.00 (fifty thousand Euro/00) to the NOVA Eroica Organisation, in damages to the image of the event.

Any amounts received by the Organisation, arising from such damages, will be donated entirely to youth cycling activities.

Both of the above-mentioned companies are authorised by all participants to process and register their personal information. The personal information of all participants will be processed and registered according to the terms of Italian privacy law no. 196 dated 30/06/2003 and European Union Regulation 2017/679 (GDPR/18).
