Der Zauber der Erschöpfung und die Lust am Wagnis

The MASE, Ministero dell’Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica, has appointed Eroica as a technical consultant to identify routes that lead to and connect the National Parks and Mining Parks of Italy.

Once completed, the study will be received by MASE, Ministero dell’Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica, and, following Eroica's indications, will be finalized with a subsequent comprehensive mapping of existing infrastructures, activated routes, and the recovery of rural roads, white roads, and forgotten roadways.

Through this study, Giancarlo Brocci has delineated the geography of a parallel world, the cycling world, to pedal and reach the 25 National Parks and 4 Mining Parks from north to south, showing the way to all cyclists who wish to return to nature by pedaling, using what is, in effect, the first mode of mobility in history that we can consider a natural example of circular economy: the vintage bicycle.

The study analyzes the 25 National Parks and 4 Mining Parks starting from nearby roads, then continues with the mapping of existing cycle paths divided by region, paying particular attention to length and proximity to other protected natural areas touched by the municipalities affected by the routes.

In the introductory narrative preceding each individual Park analyzed, Giancarlo Brocci describes the territory and highlights the roads known to him, mostly unknown to many, which often belong to white and rural roads that he himself has cycled over the last 30 years.

The study will be officially presented on May 24, 2024, in Montalcino in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security (Ministero dell’Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica) on the occasion of the "European Day of Parks," a celebration promoted by Europarc, the European Federation of Parks, which commemorates the day in 1909 when the first National Park in Europe was established in Sweden.
