Cambria, Cayucos and San Simeon, California: little known gems along Highway 1
It is, the New York Times says, ‘the central coast at its best Tuscany.’ It’s no wonder then that Nova Eroica and Classic Eroica in particular, whose origins are in Tuscany, would find its home here.
To three local towns we pay homage: Cambria, Cayucos and San Simeon. Whether you come early or stay longer, extra time here is time well spent.
Cambria. April 2022 marks our second year home-based in Cambria, a seaside village with a population of 6500, situated halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles on Highway 1. It’s a place you might like to call home for many reasons, among those, its vantage point of endless opportunity for exploration by bike.
Cayucos, 14 miles south, is one of those destinations. Year 2022 also marks the year Cayucos will share hosting and official event start duties with Cambria. Known for its beautiful beaches, scenic 953 foot pier, excellent waves and quirky character, Cayucos is ideally located within 30 minutes from almost anything you'd want to see or do on this section of Highway 1
Five miles north of the start line is the little town of San Simeon, California. Passing by, whether by car or bike, you are filled with a sense of wonder and a lust for wander. The 35-mile ride Classic Eroica will take you along this stretch. Don’t be surprised to see zebra, Tule elk and other exotic roaming animals. It’s not an illusion.
